The ECHO Trout is a fast-action design with an ultra-sensitive tip section in the lighter weights. It is designed to cast in that distance of 30-50 feet.
There are few fish with a more diverse menu of preferred foods or living environments than trout. Sometimes, they require lightly presenting speck-sized midges to get a grab. At other times, you may find yourself tossing heavily weighted leeches on sinking lines. Designing a series optimised for every trout situation just isn’t going to happen. However, ECHO has designed the ECHO TROUT, a rod well-suited to cast flies and lines of various sizes and densities in that “sweet spot” distance of 30-50 feet.
ECHO Trouts ultra-sensitive Tip section
To protect light tippets, Tim Rhajeff produced the ECHO Trout, a fast-action design with an ultra-sensitive tip section in the lighter weights. To help carry heavier sinking lines and meatier flies, the 6wt’s tip section of the ECHO Trout has been strengthened to carry the load and lift more line when needed. Unlike our other series of rods, each ECHO Trout
size rod model has a unique action suited to that rod’s typical application. All Trout rods are light in the hand to minimize fatigue and increase casting efficiency.
ECHO Trouts Unique Handle Shape and More Unique Features
The unique handle shape of the ECHO Trout allows the angler to use the thumb on top grip, the finger on top, or extended finger grip. We chose an anodized aluminium reel seat to lessen the effort needed to maintain your gear and threw in a blue-coloured sliding hood that matches the thread wraps. They feature a semigloss finish to decrease “line stick” and are all four-piece to make it easier to travel. Each ECHO Trout includes a fabric- covered hard case. To cover every trout fishing situation, the rods come in a 7’10”#4, 9’0”#4, 9’0”#5, 9’0”#6, and 9’6”#6. For the 9’6” 6wt, we worked with top guides to dial-in the ideal length, power and action to optimise it for fishing with a nymph & indicator.
- Unique Reel Seat and Slider Ring
- Handle shape to accommodate different grip styles
- Improved accuracy and efficiency with the new Dual Zone handle
- Each rod model features a unique action
Model Overview Table
Action vs Power Comparison
The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
