The Laxa in Leirarsveit is to be found in the south west corner of Iceland and is one of Iceland’s top salmon rivers. The river is 14 km long and is fished with only 7 rods at any given time leaving plenty of space to each angler and we are lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to offer three rods on this fabulous river, for the period Saturday July 23. starting @ 16:00 thro’ to Saturday July 30 @ finishing 12:00.
The river’s catch rates have been steadily increasing and in 2008 there were 1600 salmon caught. With an average of over 200 salmon per rod Laxa in Leirarsveit is one of Iceland’s top ten salmon rivers. Have a peek at the statistics for this week over the past few years:
2010: 96 salmon for the week out of a total of 1175 salmon for the season.
2009: 90 salmon for the week in question, with a total of 1230 for the season.
2008: 184 salmon for the week with a total of 1600 for the season.
So as you can see this is a consistently good week.
The trip we have been offered includes full board accommodation in a luxury lodge, fishing permits, use of a Guide service (2 local guides for the whole river, with the possibility to get a private guide if required), and a shuttle service to and from the Airport/Lodge (approx 30min drive from Reykjavik airport). Not included: international flights, tips for guide(s) and alcohol.
The fishing isn’t cheap but if you would like the opportunity to fish this famous Icelandic Salmon river then please contact us for further details. But don’t ponder to long, rods are hard to get on this river and opportunities like this are taken up pretty quickly.
